Corners scuffed, covers quite rubbed, gilt lettering rubbed away at spines else for Volume One, archival dressing gently applied to all volumes, sm blank elegant bookplates to front pastedowns, front covers of Volume One & Volume Three detached and need of repair, pages show the usual browning, 1/3" chips at outer margin to ffe of Volume Two and to outer margins of Volume Three, book XI on pps 57 & 502 - not affecting text; else Good. A tight set of this rare and important work. Much discussion of food storage of the both American and British troops as well as lengthy descriptions of the living conditions of "native savages." Their fields, covered with luxuriant harvests, attested that the culture was not unknown to them. The antiquity and marvellous beauty of their fruit trees, with the number of their orchards, were incontestable indications that it was no little time since they arrived at civil improvement."
