Written by Frederick Winsor Copeland. Sixty page typewritten Travel Journal of an American tourist’s first hand experience travelling in Algeria, Marrakech, Morocco, beginning in NY on board ship to Morocco, travelling in various touring cars and ending before the group travels on to France.  Accompanied by eight other Americans, including the author’s wife; the group’s planner/leader James F. Porter (prominent Winnetka, IL real estate businessman) and his wife Ruth W. Porter; JFP’s sister-in-law, Miss Furness; Dr. & Mrs. Preble; General Foreman and his wife. (Porters are the parents of the American photographer Eliot Furness Porter and his brother the painter Fairfield Porter).  

Descriptions of travel by train, touring car, bus. Descriptions of tribesmen, including Berbers, various ethnic groups, dress & costumes, Saharan desert, Erg, various historic references, overview of politics since WWI, living conditions, Souks, (shopping, bartering) staying in the French Hotel Transat, various other accommodations, road conditions, weather, dining, reference to the French Colonization and Rule, politics etc.

Divided into three parts: Part I. “Notes in Red Morocco” 22pp. Part II. “The Circuit of the Grand Erg” 29pp. Part III. “Up from the Desert into Kabylia” 9pp.
